Quick and easy Restaurant style Instant Pot Potato Curry is a time saver when your family demands for poori and potato curry in an hour. This south indian Restaurant style Instant Pot Potato curry goes well with dosa , poori or any bread as a side dish.
This potato masala is very famous in all indian restaurants in south part of india. Normally we boil potatoes and all the spice comes from green chilli and no spice powder is used in this recipe. Potato masala is a very simple recipe with instant pot.This technique involves 3 steps of boiling potatoes and adding in to to the onion and oil mix and steaming for a minute. You can also do it as one pot recipe by just peeling the skin of potatoes and following the below step in saute mode ,add potatoes and pressure cook for 10 minutes and release naturally.
I have used 5 medium-sized potatoes,3 green chillies(slit), 1-inch ginger, some asafetida (helps in relieving gas caused by potatoes),1 red onion and some cilantro leaves for this recipe. If you enjoy Indian curry recipe please try this recipe instant pot curry recipe I posted last week.

Restaurant Style instant pot potato curry
- 1 tbsp oil
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 tsp urad dal
- 1/4 tsp hing ( or) asafetida
- 1 inch ginger shredded
- 3 number green chilli slit
- 1 number red onion
- 5 number potatoes medium size
- Few cilantro leaves
- salt to taste
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 cup water
Prep work :
Add 1 cup of water to the inner pot , add the potatoes and boil for 10 minutes ,release naturally.
In the meantime slit green chillies ,chop onions,shred ginger and keep it ready
Once potatoes are boiled peel the skin ,mash and keep it ready
Restaurant Style instant pot potato curry :
Turn on the instant pot in 'saute' mode ,once it displays 'HOT' add oil and wait for a minute add mustard seeds and let it pop,add urad dal let it turn golden brown.Add hing,green chilli,ginger,onion and saute for 2 minutes
Add mashed potatoes,turmeric powder,salt to taste and 1 to 1.5 cup of water
Close the lid and steam for a minute.
Do a QR ,add chopped cilantro and lemon juice(optional) few drops for taste
Your Restaurant Style instant pot potato curry is ready to serve with any bread
