Breakfast Porridge Mix also know as Sathu(Strength) Maavu(Powder) in tamil.This mix is one of the very old recipes made by our ancestors to suit all age.Breakfast Porridge Mix can a laborious process but once made it is one of the healthiest and easiest breakfast .You can make this porridge sweet or salt depends on your taste.In southern india it’s given from one year old to any age group.When your recipe is packed with protein why we need the commercial protein powder.
Everytime i visit to india i buy all the ingredients and sprout it and grind it in the mill and bring to US since I haven’t found any mill that can do this job until nutrimill sent it product for me to test it.I have tested more than 10 ingredients and result is amazing.I tried with dried ones,sprouted ones everything yielded a fine to coarse flour as i want.See the video below to see how it works.
Here are the few items i tested with nutrimill to get my utmost satisfaction before sharing it with my viewers.
- Wheat berries
- Rice- Basmati,sona masoori,brown
- Black eyed peas
- Chickpeas(Brown and white)
- Oats groats
- Corn – I find little hard to grind
- Ragi(Finger Millet)
Now let us see how to sprout using instantpot.Since this is specifically for my toddler i sprouted most of the ingredients.If you dont need it you can very well skip the sprouting process and go ahead with the grinding the ingredients one by one.If you are allergic to any ingredients you can skip that as well.The beauty of this recipe is you know what goes in.

Soak the ingredient you want to sprout for 8 hours.Drain the water completely.Fill the inner pot with 1 cup of water and fill the steamer basket with the one you want to sprout.Set 'yogurt' mode 8- 12 hrs depends on how big you want to be sprouted
Sathu Maavu|Breakfast Porridge Mix
- 100 gms Barley
- 100 gms Wheat – 100gm Sprouted
- 100 gms Ragi /Finger Millet Sprouted
- 100 gms Green gram Sprouted
- 100 gms Brown Rice
- 100 gms Black gram
- 50 gms Corn
- 100 gms Roasted Gram
- 10 gm Dry Ginger
- 1/2 cup Tapioca Flour
- 10 numbers Cardamom Seeds
- 100 gms Peanuts
- 100 gms Chickpeas Sprouted
- 50 gms Cowpeas Sprouted
- 10 gm carom seeds
- 50 gms Cashew
- 50 gms Pistachio
- 50 gms Almond
- 100 gms Oats Groats
Dry roast all the ingredients separately one by one.
Prepare flour using nutrimill / blender.
Once you powdered the flour sieve it.
If you find any solid peace collect it and powder it again in nutrimill/blender.
Sieve it again.
Once done, store it in an air tight container.
No need to store it in fridge you can store it in room temperature itself.
Take 2 tbsp of this powder, Mix in 1/4 cup cold water and 1/2 cup milk.
Dissolve it without any lumps.
Keep this in stove and stir it till you get porridge like consistency.
Remove it from stove and add a tsp of sugar and let it cool down for some time.
Take 2 tbsp of this powder and a cup of butter milk.
Mix it nicely.
Add salt and then consume it.
In Instantpot- use PIP method
